Step 8

“Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.”

DDA Members Share their Experience on Step 8:

“In my experience, we can get a lot of the people who will feature in our amends list from our Steps Four & Five.

But this Step gives us the opportunity to add anyone else who we think we have wronged to a list of relationships and mistakes that we want to put right.

This Step is all about becoming willing. I split my list into three or four groups:

  1. Those I’m willing to make amends to now.
  2. Those who I might be willing to make amends to at a later date.
  3. Those who I don’t want to make amends to.
  4. And finally, those who I own an amends to, but that it would cause more harm if I did.

I went through this list with my sponsor, and he helped me to work out who I should, could, and shouldn’t make direct amends to.”
