“Before I discovered a 12 Step Fellowship for those with mental health & addiction issues, I honestly thought that I could get away with treating my addiction only.
I struggled with my MH in traditional addiction support groups for so long.
Dual Diagnosis Fellowships gave me the vital missing pieces in my recovery journey. I discovered that I needed to treat both my addiction and my mental health problems concurrently in order to achieve and maintain a healthy & effective recovery.
DDA has provided a whole load of new friends who do similar things to me in order to develop and grow in their recoveries. This brings a sense of fellowship and of being a part of something bigger than me. It’s given me a purpose and a positive direction in my life.
12 Step programmes are very much a ‘we’ thing and I personally get a lot of peace of mind from that. I no longer have to travel the path of having mental health problems as well as my addiction alone. I feel supported and connected in my recovery.
I also love the way that DDA won’t ever turn someone who is struggling with their mental health or addiction, even if they haven’t been able to get a full and accurate diagnosis. That truly makes DDA a programme of love, acceptance, faith & courage.”
